ABOUT PUNTA CANA
Punta Cana, on the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic, is a “bustling city hugging the Rio Chavon.” The surrounding region offers all the classic attractions of a Caribbean destination — sandy beaches, upscale beachfront resorts and ample opportunities for water sports and excursions. The city is surrounded by sugar cane fields and is close to some of the island’s most scenic spots.
In addition to sugarcane, the surrounding region produces coffee, tobacco, beeswax, cattle, and hides. The city has food-processing and soap, shoe, and furniture plants. The port handles mainly sugar, and there is considerable fishing.
